Chiropractic Treatments

What should I expect at my first chiropractic visit?

On your very first visit with us, a focused history and an initial physical examination is completed. The purpose of the initial physical examination is to rule out any complicating health factors that may contribute to your present complaint. At the end of the examination, we discuss and tailor a unique treatment plan based on the findings of the physical examination and your goals, expectations, and concerns. This process normally takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Along with your first visit, please provide the following:

  • A referral note from a medical doctor (if required for insurance coverage)
  • Any recent diagnostic images (x-ray, MRI, etc.) or reports
  • A list of current medications prescribed by a medical doctor

What should I wear during my visits?

We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing, or bring some to change into.

  • For men, shorts and t-shirt
  • For women, shorts and t-shirt or tank top
Regions of the body relating to your condition may need to be accessed in order for assessments, soft tissue techniques, or the placement of acupuncture needles. We will always ask your permission to have access to a body region and explain the procedure before proceeding with the treatment. During your treatment, you will be professionally draped at all times.

What should I expect during subsequent visits?

Subsequent visits can take from approximately 15 to 45 minutes. Each treatment consists of a combination of chiropractic techniques, medical acupuncture, and/or soft tissue techniques, according to the treatment plan recommended for you. The treatment time may vary from visit to visit, depending on your current condition.

Do I need x-rays?

No. We don't require x-rays of our clients for their first visit. However, based on the client's medical history, physical examination, and/or if the client is unresponsive to our proposed treatment plan, we may request and refer our clients to have diagnostic imaging done.

Do I have to get my neck “cracked”?

We understand that some individuals may be a bit hesitant of the “cracking” sound when receiving a chiropractic adjustment. For those individuals, we can offer chiropractic mobilizations instead of a chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic mobilization is a gentler form of a chiropractic adjustment which involves no “cracking”, but rather gentle applied pressure.

How many visits will I need?

Each individual responds to treatment differently. One individual may require more visits due to complicating health factors, while another individual may require fewer visits. As part of your first visit with us, we will propose a tailored treatment plan that will include an estimated number of visits that you may require to return to full health. After each visit, we will discuss your progress to determine if further treatment is needed to address your health concerns. Our goal is to help you attain your optimal level of health, as soon as possible. We want to see you enjoy living without pain or discomfort!

Is chiropractic more effective than acupuncture (or vice versa) in helping patients get better?

In some instances – yes. One form of treatment may be more effective than the other for a particular condition. But in many other instances, we have found that the most beneficial treatment for patients is a combination of medical acupuncture and chiropractic techniques.
